What book is House of the Dragon based on?
House of the Dragon is based on parts of George’s Fire & Blood.
It was published in November 2018 and chronicles the history of House Targaryen. As you may already know, the new series is actually a prequel to Game of Thrones. It takes place two centuries prior to the events of its predecessor.
Fire & Blood is going to be published in volumes and, to get specific, House of the Dragon pulls from the second half of the first volume.
George is yet to publish the second volume, so the TV series is somewhat evolving at the same time as the novel series.
